This project required a screed to be installed on the ground floor only; with the ground floor consisting of six retail units and two communal entrances.
The design team were originally looking at using a labour intensive and relatively costly power floated concrete to be installed at 100mm, on top of PIR rigid board insulation.
However, as the floor wasn't structural, the Gypsol technical team assisted them to redesign the floor to utilise a screed containing binder.
The screed was installed at a depth of just 50mm, with a deeper layer of insulation used to take account of the reduced screed depth. The screed was then covered with ceramic tiles.
Thanks to ease of placement and the self-levelling tendencies of Gypsol screed, the whole floor area, totalling 1000m2, was installed in a single day by just 3 people.
Other benefits of this redesign included cost savings and reductions in the embodied energy in the building, along with improvements to the thermal properties of the floor thanks to the thicker insulation.
