New House, Oban

Just before Christmas 2016 Aggregate Industries demonstrated their service to customer by delivering their Gypsol based Highflow screed to the West Coast of Scotland; exactly 100 miles from the production plant.


With wonderful views and a dramatic landscape overlooking the coastline, Oban is the principal base for Caledonian MacBrayne’s ferries travelling to the Western Isles of Scotland. The client set about creating his new bespoke specifications, with ground floors incorporating Gypsol Classic floor screed.


The client is an enthusiastic self- builder and has constructed his new house with only the occasional assistance of his brother. Dragon Underfloor Heating, the floor screeder is the first and only sub- contractor on the project from their Yorkshire base.


Being a significant distance from the readymix plant, a 3 ½ hour lorry drive, Aggregate Industries had to ensure that the batching process and quality of the product was suitable on site. The supply plant was at Renfrew and the journey involved the driver having to navigate an uphill single- track road for the last mile, driving backwards. Having arrived on site the screed was tested and found to be fine for installation which began immediately.

The screed was placed over a pre- installed underfloor heating pipes. This teamwork ensured a successful installation in challenging site conditions and the floor was laid to everyone’s immense satisfaction.
